I REFER to an acticle on January 20 2008 from Straits Times, titled "Who Will Let The Dogs In".

In one of the paragraphs, as per Tay Suan Chiang who quoted the General Manager of Vivocity (Wendy Low), she has mentioned that,
"Over at VivoCity, its general manager Wendy Low says visitors can come with their dogs but they must comply with certain restrictions.
Owners with dogs in carriers can access all spaces within the mall but dogs on a leash must navigate a prescribed route from the carpark at Basement 1 or 2 to get to the Pet Safari store at Level 3.
'Dogs are also allowed on VivoCity Promenade, the waterfront boardwalk, provided they are leashed,' says Ms Low. "
Today, a girl friend and I decided to bring my 1.5 year old female Shih Tzu crossed Maltese (weighing not more than 4kg) to the shopping mall. I have confirmed from the Information Counter and Pet Safari much earlier that I will have access to all spaces within the mall as long as my dog is in her carrier which she was, all the time while we roamed the inside of the mall. When we were at The Sky Park, I had her removed from my carrier and leashed her up immediately. I allowed her to do a quick walk in the waters since there is no No Pets sign (only No Swimming sign) for the waters or in fact, anywhere at the sky park and was approached by a non-chinese officer, whom I believed is the security guard, that dogs are not allowed in the waters. As much as I was not entirely pleased with what he told me, I understood that the waters MIGHT really be prohibited to dogs so I brought my dog back onshore.
Not more than two minutes later and while I was trying to dry my dog up, another non-chinese Certis Cisco officer (his name is something along the line of Syed Abdullah) came up to me and told me that dogs are not allowed at anywhere in the mall except for the Pet Safari. I have had mentioned to him that I got it checked (even via the internet) that Vivocity is pet-friendly and I could access anywhere in the mall as long as she is in her carrier and that I could walk her, with the leash on, at The Sky Park. He insisted that it is not true and he sounded like I made up whatever I just told him.
Below is a summary of what he had told me during our argument:-
- Anyone with dogs are only allowed to proceed to Pet Safari.
- That Vivocity is indeed pet-friendly BUT only at Pet Safari which means, no dogs at anywhere else, not even at The Sky Park.
- Information Counter told me the wrong information (when I got it confirmed more than thrice before today) that pets could access anywhere as long as they are in their carrier.
- Pet Safari staff told me the wrong information that we can walk our leashed dogs at The Sky Park.
- That the people working at Vivocity do not know the rules and regulation.
- That people may be afraid of dogs (which I understand, that is why she was LEASHED ALL THE TIME!).
Then again, I know my dog's temperament. She is only too happy to have new friends to play with and in fact, while we walked in the waters, she attracted quite a bit of attention. All wanting to take photos of her and play with her.
I got very annoyed because this is not the first time I have had encounters of security officers (sad to say, ALL non-chinese) trying to chase us out of the premises of Vivocity. At other times, they just told me that dogs are not allowed "here", which I do not know if they meant The Sky Park (because they "caught" us at The Sky Park) or Vivocity altogether.
What the two officers said today afternoon spoilt our mood altogether and we left Vivocity with yet another displeasing day. I realised afterward that, all these time, they had said "NO DOGS" and not "NO PETS". I have seen people walking their cats (though not very often) and with no issues at Vivocity so am I to presume that either their (more specifically, non-chinese security officers) eyes are not "programmed" to see cats or that they (more specially, non-chinese security officers) actually allow cats and not dogs at Vivocity?
So what now?
